He or She? Sneak Peek Baby Shower Favors

Baby Shower Favors | Label #235, Tag #1351

What do you do if you're throwing a baby shower and you don't know the gender of the baby?

You make everything pink AND blue, that's what!

For our sneak peek this week, we took the gender reveal design (#1351) and used some pink and some blue in the text, some pink and some blue tulle for bows (see in the background?), and the Lullaby lip balm...isn't pink or blue. (They're keeping it a secret.)

What themes do you like for a gender non-specific baby shower?

Pickles & Ice Cream Invitations and Gifts

I love the idea of a cravings theme for a baby shower, and the classic craving is Pickles & Ice Cream!

We've created a Pinterest board with lots of ideas for decorations, snacks, gifts, cakes, and invitations for a Pickles & Ice Cream baby shower. We couldn't resist making invitations, stickers, postage, and gifts to match our Pickles & Ice Cream lip balm favors.

Our new Pickles & Ice Cream invites and stickers are available on Zazzle. Personalize with your own party details.

Customize a Pickles & Ice Cream t-shirt for the mom-to-be, too! Lots of colors and styles to choose from.

Moms need lots of totes for carrying baby gear, so why not choose one to match the theme? Different sizes and styles!

Pickles & Ice Cream postage will match the invitations. (Coming soon.)

What would you include in a Pickles & Ice Cream baby shower? I'd love it if you'd share your ideas in the comments!

Baby Sprinkle Invitations and Favors

I recently created some personalized favors for a baby sprinkle. When I first read about this type of party a few years ago, I had one of those, "Why didn't *I* think of that?" moments. It's such a clever idea, really. If you've never attended (or heard of) this type of shower, here are 8 things you need to know about baby sprinkles.

1. What is a baby sprinkle?
Whether you're a meteorologist or a party planner, a sprinkle is just a little shower.

2. When do you have a sprinkle?
A baby sprinkle celebrates the new arrival when the mom-to-be is expecting her second (third, fourth...) child. You can plan to have the party before the baby arrives (around six weeks before the due date) or a month or more after.

Baby Sprinkle Invitations
3. Who hosts (and is invited to) a sprinkle?
Usually a friend or family member hosts, and close friends and family attend a sprinkle. Think small and intimate.

4. Why throw a baby sprinkle instead of a shower?
By the time they're expecting their second (or third) baby, families already have most of the baby gear they need. A sprinkle is a way to celebrate the new baby without a big emphasis on gifts.

5. What type of gifts are appropriate at a baby sprinkle?
Though optional, diapers, baby wipes, bath and body products, and other "consumable" items are perfect gifts for a sprinkle. If the new baby is the opposite gender, you might also choose a gender-specific outfit or other item that you know they wouldn't have saved from the first baby.

Baby Sprinkle Favors
6. Should the parents-to-be register?
Again, this is totally optional. If you do, make sure to select items in a range of prices. Many guests will want to share a little something with the baby; but remember,  the emphasis is on celebrating the new arrival!

7. Where can I find baby sprinkle invitations?
Zazzle has lots, including our own "Sprinkled with Love" cupcakes. Choose your favorite design and have them personalized for your day. You can often find coordinating stickers and other matching stationery and gifts, too.

8. What about baby sprinkle favors?
Favors are optional and often not included in a baby sprinkle, but if you choose to share sprinkle favors with your guests, we'd love to work with you! Here are some of our baby sprinkle favor designs for lip balms, lotions, bath gels, and more. Please contact us if you have any questions!

Baby Shower Signature Mocktails

A recent trend in events is to choose a Signature Cocktail to accent the theme. This is great for weddings or bridal showers, but what about baby shower drinks? Most planners drop alcoholic beverages from the baby shower menu out of sympathy for the mom-to-be, but consider featuring a Signature Mocktail that everyone can enjoy. See our recipes below for Babylove, Lullaby, and Apple of My Eye mocktails, and take a look at our matching lip balm favors in these inspired baby theme flavors!

1 1/2 oz coconut milk
3/4 oz cream
2 oz pineapple juice
3/4 oz banana syrup
1 banana

Shake over crushed ice, then strain into a collins glass. Fill with crushed ice, slice banana onto the top and serve.

Apple of My Eye

2 oz apple juice
1/3 oz black currant syrup
1 oz whipping cream

Blend with crushed ice and serve in an old-fashioned glass, sprinkled with nutmeg or cinnamon. Don't forget the straws!

12 oz orange juice
4 oz sweet and sour mix
4 scoops vanilla ice cream
crushed ice

Blend all ingredients until slushy. Pour into margarita glasses and serve with orange slices.

Lullaby, Babylove, and Apple of My Eye are some of our most popular baby shower flavors. Order them with standard labels (shown here), with personalized labels, personalized tags, or with tags and labels.

What do you serve for baby shower drinks? Please share in the comments!

Have Cookies, Will Travel: Cookie Decorators Who Ship in the U.S.

I have become obsessed with decorated cookies, and I enjoy indulging that obsession regularly on Facebook. If you're a friend there, you've no doubt seen my posts from Hayley Cakes and Cookies,  SweetAmbs (see photo below), and Arty McGoo, among many others. I love their creativity and cookie artistry and I love sharing their work.

Decorated Cookies by SweetAmbs

It occurred to me that if you're planning a party, you might want to buy decorated cookies from one of these cookiers, but I really had to dig to find out which of them will ship to customers. So I went through my favorites, did a bit of searching online, and put together a list with more than two dozen options from across the country. As of today (well, and last week when I started researching), all of the cookie decorators listed below will ship within the U.S. (There's even one who specializes in tree nut, peanut, soy and sesame free cookies...see the very bottom.)

Please note that since I have not sampled their work, I am not recommending any particular business here, just sharing a list of options. For your convenience, I'm providing the cookiers' websites and Facebook pages (when available) so you can learn more about them and their work before ordering. To make things even easier, I've made a Cookiers Who Ship in the U.S. Interest List at Facebook. Click the link and subscribe to start getting Facebook updates directly from all of these cookie artists!

I'd love to keep adding to this list, too, so if you are a cookier who ships—or you have an excellent cookie decorator in your town who ships within the U.S. —please leave a comment so we can all check them out!

Happy Party Planning!

Love Plus One Baby Shower Favors & Gifts

Last week we shared ideas for the practical and adorable Love +1 Onesies®-themed baby shower, including stationery, printable decorations, and cookies made from custom cutters. Today in our final Love +1 Baby Shower theme post we're talking about my favorite parts of the baby shower. (Can you guess?) Of course, the favors and gifts!

Shower Gifts
The best gift at a Love +1 Shower is a onesie! The hard part will be choosing just one. With Etsy and Zazzle, the selection of creative infant bodysuits has skyrocketed. There are bodysuits with movie quotesonesies® with bow tiesbodysuits with dinosaursnursery rhymes, and ..... well, you really must check our Pinterest board for more ideas!

Onesie cupcake from Embellished Babycakes

I think one of my favorite ideas is this clever gift from Embellished Babycakes. They're simple onesies® wrapped elegantly as cupcakes! Make sure you have a plateful to display along with the other goodies on your dessert table. Such a cute addition to the decor, and of course a welcome gift for the mom-to-be. You can follow Embellished Babycakes on Facebook, too.

When I was sharing the custom cookies last week, I mentioned that sugar cookies make great favors. I baked up more just to show you what I mean (see below). You can use (or make) an extra large cutter just for special favors, decorate the cookies in your theme colors, then wrap each cookie individually in cello bags with coordinating ribbons. Makes a scrumptious favor!

If you aren't up for making the cookies yourself, discuss your theme with a local bakery or find a cookier online to help! If you don't know where to find one, join our Facebook page...I share cookies almost every day and there are so many really talented cookiers to choose from!

If you're looking for a different kind of yummy favor, I just might be able to help you. My personal favorites are Lullaby lip balms with custom labels, or Babylove lip balms with custom tags and bows. I'm also partial to baby powder lotions with personalized Love +1 tags. See some of the options below and let me know if I can help you with your baby shower!

Love Plus One Baby Shower Cookies

Ready for more Love +1? Earlier this week we shared ideas for the adorable and immensely practical Onesies®-themed baby shower. (An ideal shower theme, in my opinion!) Today we'll take the same design from the tiny bunting and turn it into shaped cookies and fondant for cookie or cupcake toppers.

Of course you can buy the little bodysuit-shaped cookie cutters in several sizes if you'd rather not go to the trouble to make your own. Use the mini cutters from Foose to cut out fondant for cupcake toppers or to add to the sides or top of a cake. Larger cutters can be used to create sugar cookies, which you can top with fondant cut in the same shape, or add pearls or fondant "buttons" to dress up cookies with a simple icing.

I really wanted to try making this particular cookie shape, so I got a kit to make my own cookie cutters (affiliate link). The kit comes with everything you need, including thin metal and the tools to shape it, along with a special adhesive to hold the edges of the cutter together.

I didn't know what to expect, but this was very easy to make. You can see below that I printed out the shape I wanted to use as my guide, then used the different tools as well as my fingers to bend the metal into shape. The photo below left shows it about halfway through, and below right is the finished cutter. I did as they recommended and made sure I was joining the two ends of the metal together on one of the straight sides. I clamped it and baked in the oven to cure the adhesive (don't worry, this is all described in the directions that come with the kit). An hour later my new cutter was ready to wash and use!

This was a project of "firsts" for me because I had never made fondant before, either. I decided that marshmallow fondant would be a great one to experiment with, and used this recipe from Wilton. Again, this could not have been easier! I added a bit of red food color to make pink fondant, mixed up a batch of sugar cookie dough, then rolled out and cut both cookies and fondant tops before baking my cookies.

Make sure to chill your dough well before rolling out so your cookies won't spread as much as mine did. As soon as you pull the cookies from the oven, top them with the fondant so it melts a bit and sticks to the cookies. Then you can decorate them more with icing or additional fondant accents, or leave them plain as I did (see at the very bottom below).

I really enjoyed making these cookies, though they're not as fancy as some of the others I've seen online. Firefly Confections makes really pretty cookies, and I like these from, too. They'd make terrific party favors for the Love +1 shower (more ideas coming soon), as well as a pretty addition to the dessert table.

Do you make your own cookies for a party, or do you trust it to the professionals?

Love Plus One Baby Shower

Infant bodysuits (more commonly referred to as Onesies®) are the t-shirts of the baby world. Just like t-shirt wearers everywhere, your tike can pull one on to express her political leanings, pair with jeans for casual Fridays, or doll one up for special occasions. (Okay, she might need a bit of help with the snaps.) When she can't hold her milk, this wardrobe staple can be changed again (and again and again). In our opinion, the baby bodysuit is the ideal shower theme: adorable and immensely practical. That's why we put together this Love +1 series with lots of ideas to help you plan the perfect Onesies®-themed shower.

Today we're sharing ideas for stationery and decor, but stay tuned for posts about cookies, gifts, and (of course) favor ideas!

Bodysuit Bunting If you love the ever-popular bunting banner, may we suggest a twist? Create an adorable "clothesline" with sweet baby bodysuits to announce to all that it's a girl (or a boy...remember, just like t-shirts, Onesies® are unisex attire)! Download the PDF template here, print and/or cut out a bunch of bodysuits (I used my Silhouette), and pin to colorful twine with real or tiny craft clothespins. (Our template includes the letters, too.)

You can also cut out extras and encourage your guests to write a memory, a piece of advice or a parenting tip to one side, then clip together the whole "wardrobe" for the mom-to-be. It's an adorable keepsake with all of the wisdom of her friends and family!

Cake Top Bunting
Want a clothesline bunting for the top of your cake or cupcakes? We made a template with some smaller sizes just for that purpose! You can download the PDF here and print and then cut as needed. (For your own use only, please.) Then use two straws or lollipop sticks, attach twine, and pin or tape the
onesies to the twine. Add your clothesline to the cake top or set up between the cupcakes for a cute display.

(Make sure you save this smaller template for our confection post to make your own matching cookie cutters!)

Love Plus One Stationery Of course when you're planning a shower, you need invitations! We have new designs for Love +1 themes as well as the simpler bodysuit motif available now at Zazzle. (Also available in blue for a baby boy shower). Find invitations, stickers, and even postage in designs to match the party decor and our favors! Oh, and you can customize them, too!
